Before you start — key terms explained
ROAS
Return on Ad Spend. For every rand you put into ads, how many rands do you get back in revenue? A ROAS of 7 means R7 in sales for every R1 spent on ads.
Example: R100,000 ad spend × ROAS 7 = R700,000 in revenue.
COGS %
Cost of Goods Sold as a percentage of your revenue. This covers what you paid for your product, packaging, and any inbound shipping to get it to your warehouse.
Example: If your product costs R450 and sells for R1,000 (excl. VAT), your COGS is 45%.
VAT & AOV
Your Average Order Value is what a customer typically spends per purchase. If your prices include 15% VAT, tick the box — we'll strip it out so we calculate on real revenue, not the tax portion.
Example: R1,150 AOV incl. VAT = R1,000 actual revenue per order.

What the calculator assumes
Payment Processing
4%
South African payment gateways like PayFast charge around 2.95% + R1.50 per transaction. Add Buy Now Pay Later options like PayFlex or PayJustNow (up to 5.5%) and 4% is a realistic average. Larger stores may negotiate lower rates.
Shipping
Flat / Order
We use a flat per-order rate that you set. This gives you flexibility to factor in your actual courier rates, rural delivery surcharges, insurance, or any other per-shipment costs specific to your fulfilment setup.
Shopify Fees
Base + %
Most calculators only account for the fixed monthly fee. We also include the percentage Shopify charges on your gross sales including VAT — this is the cost that quietly compounds as you scale and most store owners miss it entirely.
